The ‘Greatest British Co.’ is a pioneering gourmet lifestyle network which celebrates and promotes outstanding food and drink experiences, and makes them available to purchase directly via its consumer-focussed network, and dedicated website Gourmet Experiences. Founded by food writer, reviewer, marketer and author James Day, who created the business to help support hospitality operators who each have a unique story to tell, become more engaged with gourmet-lifestyle seeking food lovers to explore and engage with Britain’s rich variety of chefs, cookery schools and artisan producers, many of whom are right on their doorstep.
For over 25 years, James has been involved in the hospitality industry, both as a promoter and a consumer.
From marketing Michelin-accredited chefs and attending National Awards ceremonies to interviewing some of the finest culinary masters of Britain and nurturing some of the nation’s most innovative chefs from pop-ups to award winners, he brings a wealth of industry experience.
In recent years, the Greatest British Co. team have supported a new generation of grass-roots chefs, cookery schools and producers, and share their passion for fresh British produce and warm hospitality inspired James to create a whole new genre of experiential gift celebrating the best of British dining.

Through Greatest British, James and his team are launching a new campaign to seek out the country’s 100 best chefs, cookery schools and independent artisan food producers. Launched on Mid-Summers day, June 21st, the search begins and the final results will be shared on the Gourmet-experiences.co.uk website during British Food Fortnight, which runs from 21st September to 6th October 2019.
James is seeking out exceptional English wine producers, artisan distilleries and breweries, pioneering cookery schools, boundary-breaking chefs at Michelin-accredited restaurants, and hotels which have a strong focus on food and drink – all celebrating seasonality, sustainability and exceptional hospitality.
‘GourmetXperiences’: Immersive Gourmet-lifestyle gifts, celebrating seasonality, sustainability and exceptional British hospitality. Each provided by accredited Chefs, Hospitality Venues, Cookery Schools and Producers.
To be eligible, experience providers must be independent, environmentally aware promoting sustainability, focussed on sourcing British seasonal produce and either industry-accredited or recognised for excellence.
Each of these “100 GREATEST BRITISH GourmetXperiences” will then be available for consumers to purchase directly through this dedicated Gourmet Experiences website, either as a unique experience for themselves or as a wonderful gift for friends, colleagues or loved ones.
“A memorable, food-led experience is peppered with so many things – where the ingredients are from, how they’re prepared, the ambience of your environment, the people you’re enjoying it with. These are the things that create the experiences we remember,” says James.
